Alivia Zollinger has dedicated her life to soccer since she was very young. She has always been able to maintain her regular life while being able to go to practices and games, this is something that some people aren’t able to do. Multi-tasking a sport, a job, full time school, and just regular life is sometimes hard and can become overwhelming. She has never became discouraged in any way and has always kept trying regardless what was thrown in her way. She enjoys every minute of playing this sport. It’s amazing how someone could play for so long and never get tired of it, but she loves it and has for many years.
How did you get started with soccer and why do you do it?
I started playing soccer when I was 4 years old and have been playing ever since. I really enjoy the sport because I like to be competitive, and I’ve just been super passionate about playing the sport since I started.
Is it hard managing school, work, and soccer? How do you do it?
I struggled with having to work and go to school and go to practice as well as games. Although my job is pretty flexible with my outside schedule, I still needed to make money. My schedule was pretty much go to school, go to practice, and then go to work. I wasn’t able to go home until around 9:30-10 pm, this was a struggle. With games I would go to school then go to my game around 7, I was super stressed but I still enjoyed the soccer games and practices.
Do you plan on continuing soccer after high school? Explain:
I really want to continue playing, but I am really struggling with finding a team to actually join and play on for a while. I am going to do some spring and summer training with the high school team and my sisters comp team before I head to college.
What do you like most about your soccer team?
The main thing I absolutely loved about my team, is that no matter what the score was at the end of the game, we continued to encourage each other to not give up and we would constantly point out what they did good and try to motivate them to do better. Another thing I loved was we were there for each other more than just as a team.
What makes you proud of CHS and your team?
Something I am very proud of my team for, is although the scores of our games weren’t the best, we still kept our heads high and entered every game as if had our last, we were very confident and I loved that.
How has soccer impacted you?
It has made me a better as a player and as a person, personally I believe that it has humbled me as a better person/player.
Who is someone you look up to in soccer and why?
Someone I look up to would be Megan Rapino. She plays for the USA women’s team, and played in the women’s World Cup. She inspires me because she isn’t afraid to be who she is off or on the field and you can tell how hard she has pushed herself to get to where she is today.
Do you see a future career with soccer?
That’s kind of hard to answer right at this moment because I have a lot of other things going for me at the moment. One of the main reasons I can’t answer this question is because I’m currently not even on a team, although I would really like to play in college. As far as making this a career I could see myself coaching or showing teqniques to other players, but I don’t know if I would make a lifetime career out of it. Teaching others who are passionate about the same thing I am and seeing their progress is amazing to me.
What makes you happiest about playing soccer?
The thing that makes me the happiest is seeing my own improvements and accomplishments while I set goals for myself and watch myself achieve them. My sophomore year of playing I tore my ACL, but because I pushed myself everyday I was able to heal faster, I was able to play on the next season. From that point on, every time I had the chance to kick the ball around or practice doing things again, I was becoming more confident and proud of myself everyday for how much I was improving. I like knowing there is no limit to what I am doing, I can reach for the stars!
Why did you pick soccer out of all the other activities?
Honestly I was sort of thrown into it at a young age, I kept choosing this activity because I knew it was something I was genuinely interested in, and also pretty good at. Of course I’ve tried other sports, but soccer just felt like it was best for me.
